A number of Premier League clubs are preparing to compete with Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan for the signature of Iceland striker Albert Gudmundsson in the upcoming summer transfer window. Gudmundsson has been in fine form at Genoa this season, finding the back of the net 10 times in Serie A. The 26-year-old showcased his talent by scoring a hat trick in the European Championship play-offs, helping Iceland secure a 4-1 victory over Israel and set up a final clash against Ukraine for a spot in the tournament in Germany later this year.

The versatile forward, who has previously played for PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie, is expected to depart Genoa at the end of the current campaign. While Juventus and Inter have shown interest in Gudmundsson due to his impressive displays in Italy, several Premier League clubs, including a top six side, are also keen on acquiring his services.

Gudmundsson, who had a stint in Arsenal's youth setup before moving to the Netherlands, is reportedly open to a return to English football. He is contracted to Genoa until 2027 and is likely to command a transfer fee in the range of £15 million to £20 million.

Following their convincing victory over Israel, Iceland now face a crucial showdown against Ukraine to secure a berth in Euro 2024. Qualification would mark Iceland's first major tournament appearance since the 2018 World Cup in Russia and their first European Championship participation since the memorable run to the quarterfinals in 2016, where they famously eliminated England.
