Premier League club complete transfer amid Nottingham Forest interest

Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall had been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

Southampton are one of the clubs to have been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old.

The Saints have been looking to sign a replacement for Jannik Vestergaard who joined Leicester City earlier this month.

Worrall has been at Forest since the age of 14 and made his senior debut in a 2-0 away loss to Reading in 2016.

The defender impressed last season in the Championship and was on Ralph Hasenhuttl's wish list to strengthen his back line heading into the new campaign.

Worrall had been valued by Forest at between £10-£15million, according to reports.

In the end, however, the Saints opted to replace Vestergaard with 24-year-old Lyanco Vojnovic from Torino.

Lyanco has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the club, which will see him remain on the south coast until 2025.

Lyanco started his career in Brazil with Botafogo, before joining Sao Paulo where he made 25 appearances as a teenager, this then earned him a move to Italy with Torino, where he had been for the last four years.

Along with Worrall, Southampton had a list of potential targets mapped out, including Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo.

Lyanco was also reportedly wanted by Southampton's Premier League rivals Watford.

Worrall is yet to make an appearance for Forest so far this season.
