Premier League club boss makes bold claim that would wreck Leeds United promotion hopes

West Ham vice chairman Karren Brady has risked the wrath of Leeds United fans by claiming that leagues should be declared void, if seasons are unable to be completed.

The suggestion comes just a day after the Premier League and Football League were suspended amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Brady, whose West Ham side climbed out of the top flight relegation zone in recent weeks, thinks leagues will be forced to start again.

In her weekly column in the Sun, Brady said: “The only antidote at present is care in human contact and unrelenting pursuit of hygiene.

“Suspension or cancellation of the league was always a certainty.

“There is no dodging the possibility that all levels in the EFL as well as the Premier League will have to be cancelled and this season declared null and void because if the players can’t play the games can’t go ahead.”

She added that the idea of voiding the season will be discussed at a meeting next week: “As games in both the PL and in the EFL are affected, the only fair and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and void.

“Who knows who would have gone down or come up if the games have not actually been played in full?

“A huge blow to Liverpool who might be robbed of their first title in 30 years.

“This will be discussed between the PL and the clubs next week at an emergency meeting.”

It will be news that will be met by anger from many teams up in the land, with Liverpool leading the Premier League, Leeds and West Brom set for promotion.

The Whites are currently top of the Championship but the suspension means they are not due to play again until April 3 at the very earliest, when they are scheduled to visit Blackburn.
