Broadcasting rights to the Premier League have become increasingly lucrative in recent years and the competition looks set to take that to another level with the next deal in the United States.
The deal currently in place for NBC expires at the end of the 2021-22 season with the new contract expected to pass the £1billion mark when bidding closes, according to a report from The Times.
Interested parties in the USA have until November 8 to submit their offer to the Premier League. Whatever deal is struck, every side in the top-flight is set to benefit.
Since 2015, the English top-flight has become comfortably the most profitable in the world, bringing in over £3billion a year since the last deal was struck with NBC.
However, the new deal is expected to earn the league £9billion between 2022 and 2025, up from £4billion between 2019 and the end of this season.
NBC are expected to receive at least a portion of the new rights after splashing £1 billion on them in the last period.
A spokesperson for NBC told the Times : "We certainly want to continue our great relationship [with the Premier League]."
The network expect their biggest competition to come from ESPN and CBS, although four packages are available, similar to how the UK rights are split between Sky, BT and Amazon Prime.
But what does this new deal mean for the 20 teams that make up the division?
Well, simply, all of them stand to benefit. If the deal progresses as expected, each will stand to earn at least £9 million more per season than they currently do, including all London teams.
This adds yet another incentive to survive the drop, although as things stand, each team in the capital looks well placed to be in the top division the 2022-23 season.
