Premier League chief Richard Masters' 51-word reply on Newcastle United takeover questions

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has been asked about Newcastle United's long running takeover saga.

The Magpies are currently the subject of the Premier League's owner's and director's test and have faced opposition from other top-flight clubs and politicians over the connection with Saudi Arabia.

Masters did not expand on where the deal is but also did not deny that the tests are taking place when offered the chance to do so.

Speaking to BBC Sport's Dan Roan, Masters said: "I can’t say anything about it. It’s an entirely confidential process and I can’t say anything to prejudice that process.

"Our owners and directors test is what it is, it’s there for everyone to see. We will be talking about this on a confidential basis when we get to these issues."

The Chronicle understands that the test has got through the most recent stage without any red flags despite some negative noises last week.

Top-flight chiefs would then leave it to the Magpies to announce the deal once it was completed.

Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund are waiting for the green light for the deal.
