La Liga has denied that current head Javier Tebas is being considered for the vacant role of Premier League chief executive.
The Premier League has been scouring for candidates after Susanna Dinnage decided against replacing Richard Scudamore, while BBC executive Tim Davie also rejected an approach.
Tebas, who has been in charge of La Liga since 2013, is believed to now be one of the Premier League’s top candidates.
Responding to speculation in a statement, La Liga said: “Javier has a contract with La Liga and not only is he happy at La Liga, he also has lot of responsibilities and many challenges to work on with changing the broadcast landscape, the threat of new competitions and format changes that put domestic competition at risk.”
Under Tebas, La Liga has become second, only to the Premier League, in terms of income generated, and the 56-year-old recently launched a new scheme to play La Liga matches in the US.
The 56-year-old was previously offered the opportunity to take over Italy’s Serie A, but decided to stay in Spain.
