Premier League: Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur - in pictures
There's a blistering atmosphere in Stamford Bridge for this big game and Tottenham will need big game performances from their players. Gary Cahill leaps highest blasts a header goalwards from eight yards. The effort's going just wide, but Oscar nips in at the far post and glances the ball home with his headPhotograph: Tom Jenkins
He's rather happy and so are the fans Photograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianHe's then mobbed by his team-matesPhotograph: Kerim Okten/EPAThings are all square again after 26 minutes courtesy of a fabulous goal by Tottenham Hotspur's Emmanuel Adebayor. The ball is cleared from a Chelsea corner and the ball falls to Adebayor inside his own half. He runs and runs and runs as the Chelsea defenders back off and back off. Then from thirty yards out he opens up his body and, spotting Cech off his line, curves the most gorgeous shot you'll ever see into the top-right corner. Torres's quick feet bamboozles Vertonghen which gives the Chelsea man time to slot a through ball between the Spurs defender and Matt Dawson. Ramires scampers after it and, from the right-hand edge of the D, pokes out a right boot to clip a first-time effort past Hugo Lloris and into the bottom left cornerPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianTen minutes after the break Eden Hazard has a glorious chance to put clear blue sky between the two teams. He scampers after a ball down the inside left channel. Dawson should cut it out, but skitters hysterically across the turf instead, allowing the Chelsea man to nip into the box. Hazard slightly overruns the ball then checks, and should get a shot on target, and probably score, but instead of sweeping past Lloris from the left-hand edge of the six-yard box, leans back and balloons an effort miles overPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianVertonghen uses foul means to stop TorresPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianAndré Villas-Boas strikes a posePhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianAdebayor avoids a low flying RamiresPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianWith ten minutes to go Spurs are level again with another lovely smart goal. Assou-Ekotto curls a ball from the left into Adebayor, just inside the area and with his back to goal. The Togolese striker backflicks towards the onrushing Gylfi Sigurdsson, who finds himself in space with only Cech to beat. He plants a determined effort into the bottom right corner. After looking at the replays Chelsea will have the hump about this, because Adebayor was a couple of inches offside as he received the pass from Assou-Ekotto, but the flag didn't go upPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianLloris punches clear under pressure from Branislav IvanovicPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianThere's some tired legs out there as the clock ticks downPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianGareth Bale looks particularly exhaustedPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianDeep in injury time Ramires clatters into Bale as the latter makes his way down the inside-right channel. That's a free kick, 25 yards out. Bale stands over the set piece and sends a looping ball over the wall but it's a pretty tame effort compared to his usual rockets and the ball plops straight into the grateful hands of Petr CechPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianWith the Blues only needing three more points to finish in third place and ensure a place at Europe's top table next season, this banner more than a ring of truth about itPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the Guardian
