Premier League cancel plans for big announcement to disappoint Arsenal, Chelsea & Tottenham fans

The Premier League have been forced to cancel plans to induct the first two players into the inaugural official Hall of Fame.

As announced last the month, the plan was to recognise and celebrate the exceptional skill and talent of players who have graced the league since its inception in 1992.

Furthermore, the first two inductees to have their careers commemorated in the Premier League Hall of Fame was set to be revealed on Thursday 19 March.

Coronavirus: Advice for people self-isolating

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said: "Since 1992, the Premier League has been home to world-class players who have defined generations and provided us with compelling football season after season.

"A place in the Premier League Hall of Fame is reserved for the very best.

"It will be an occasion for our fans around the world to look back over the years and help us celebrate some truly exceptional playing careers."

However, as reported by the Daily Mail, those plans have been cancelled.

The report states that the ceremony has been called off with Premier League bosses set to meet with clubs that day to discuss the suspension of the competition because of the coronavirus situation.

This is likely to disappoint Arsenal and Newcastle United fans in particular.

Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry were among the favourites to be the first two to be inducted.

Meanwhile, fans of Chelsea and Tottenham would have been among those hoping that at least one of their former players would be in the running.

But an announcement has been cancelled for the time being and it remains to be seen when the Premier League plans to pick this back up.
