Premier League boss backed for transfer success amid interest in Nottingham Forest ace

West Ham United boss David Moyes has been backed to find some summer transfer gems, amid interest in Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall.

The Reds centre-back has caught the eye of a number of clubs after an impressive season in the Championship.

Burnley are long-term admirers and remain keen on the 24-year-old, while fellow top-flight sides Crystal Palace and the Hammers, as well as newly-promoted Norwich City are all understood to be interested.

Moyes has done some clever business in the market since taking charge at West Ham in December 2019.

And former striker Frank McAvennie believes pursuing Worrall would also be a good move for his old club.

“These boys in the Championship fight for their life,” he told West Ham Zone. “I’m not going to compete with Moyes when it comes to that because he’s different class, he’s good at picking players from there that’s for sure.

“Long may it continue, if we can get hold of him (Worrall), then great.

“Moyes will know who to pick, that’s for sure.”

Worrall, who is believed to be worth in the region of £10-12m, is under contract at the City Ground until 2024.

In an injury-disrupted season, he was a key figure for Forest during the campaign just gone and was voted Nottingham Forest Supporters’ Club Player of the Year and Gedling branch Player of the Year.

Reds boss Chris Hughton has previously said about the Nigel Doughty Academy graduate: “There’s always speculation about Joe Worrall.

“That’s not something I think about.

“Joe’s been fabulous for us. Unfortunately for Joe, he’s missed more games this season than he has done most seasons. He’s somebody who is very durable and it’s taken a couple of broken bones to keep him out.

“As regards whether he’ll be here or not (next season), his situation is the same as that of any other player - they are here until they are not here.

“He’s a player we value very highly. He’s been very, very good for me and is good around the place.

“It won’t be just Joe, you always expect speculation about who will be coming in and going out. It’s part and parcel of the game.”
