Premier League announces Jack Charlton tributes after Leeds United legend passes away

The Premier League have announced that players this weekend will wear black armbands and observe a moment of silence in a tribute to Jack Charlton.

Leeds United legend Charlton died on Friday evening at the age of 85, with the club confirming the news in a statement on Saturday morning.

"Charlton’s contribution to the game and Leeds United will never be forgotten," said the club.

"He will remain in football folklore forever and his records at Leeds United are unlikely ever to be surpassed.

"Naturally, our thoughts are with Jack’s family and friends at this difficult time."

Charlton spent his entire playing career at Leeds, making 773 appearances which remains a club record and his passing comes just weeks after the club lost fellow icons Norman Hunter and Trevor Cherry.

Tributes have been pouring in from across the football world, which his role in England's 1966 World Cup win, where he partnered Bobby Moore in the heart of the Three Lions' defence being remembered.

In a statement, the Premier League confirmed how they will be paying their own tribute to a colossus of the English game.

"The Premier League offers sincere condolences to Jack's family, friends and all those who worked with him at this sad time," they have said.

"To pay respect, players will wear black armbands and there will be a moment of silence before kick-off in all Premier League matches this weekend."
