Premier League and government disagree on plans for crowd return that involve Leeds United

Premier League teams are in disagreement with the Government in regards to the return of supporters to stadiums.

The Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA), who are in charge of ensuring the safety of the public when it is safe to return to the stadiums, have set a target of having 30 percent of each ground filled, selling tickets in blocks of six.

However, according to the Daily Mail , clubs consider this plan “impractical”, and want as many season-ticket holders as possible to be present at the game.

Talks are still happening between the Premier League, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, and the clubs about the planned return.

For clubs in the lower divisions, though, there are concerns that the proposed plans of a 30 percent fill of their stadium will prove difficult financially.

Boris Johnson previously stated that he expects fans to be back in stadiums by October in England, as long as coronavirus cases continue to drop.

"We will pilot larger gatherings in venues like sports stadiums with a view to a wider reopening in the autumn," said Johnson in July.

"From October, we intend to bring back audiences in stadiums.

"Again, these changes must be done in a Covid-secure way, subject to the successful outcome of pilots."

The Premier League’s number one priority is to ensure supporters are back watching the games in the stadium as quickly, and as safely as possible.
