Premier League and Gary Lineker respond as Wilfried Zaha shares horrific racist abuse

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has shared a disturbing racist post he has received on Instagram and it has led to the Premier League issuing a statement.

The former Manchester United forward shared screenshots of messages he received on social media, saying: "Woke up to this today."

The alleged Aston Villa fan wrote: "You better not score tomorrow, you black c***. Or I'll come to your house dressed as a ghost."

The troll sent messages to Zaha on Instagram as well as images. (INSTAGRAM)

An image was also shared with Zaha of the Ku Klux Klan in the middle of a ceremony.

One Villa fan responded by saying: "This is disgusting. They have nothing to do with my club. Please report them to the authorities. I’m appalled."

The Premier League has subsequently issued a statement on the matter.

"This behaviour is completely unacceptable and the Premier League stands alongside @wilfriedzaha in opposing this, and discrimination in any form. There is #NoRoomForRacism, anywhere," a post on Twitter read.

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker also reacted to the appalling abuse by stating: "This is abhorrent, and surely a criminal offence."
