The Premier League has committed to provide an extra £20million in support of EFL clubs to aid their recovery from the Covid pandemic.
Clubs in League One and Two will benefit from the funds across the 2021-22 season, while £5m in support will also be provided for the 66 National League clubs across the next four years.
The support package is part of the arrangement agreed with the Government when the Premier League were given the green light to roll over the top-flight’s broadcasting rights deal for another three years, instead of offering it out for auction in order to protect its value and aid recovery from the pandemic.
The Premier League have committed to £100m of additional funding over the next four years, with the support specifically directed at five key areas: supporting the National League, the women’s game, community facilities, support for the EFL and projects which “help the wider game”.
Richard Masters, the Premier League chief executive, said: “We look forward to working with our football partners to provide more important financial assistance in areas where it is truly needed, which will continue to make a difference to those clubs impacted significantly by Covid-19.”
