Premier League admits "no quick answers" on season as new statement released

The Premier League have admitted there "are no quick answers" to when top-flight football will return as the governing bodies get to set to discuss the next steps across the professional game.

Last month, the country's authorities pushed back all professional football until April 3 amid the ongoing spread of the coronavirus before that return date was subsequently moved to April 30.

That schedule is almost certain to be postponed further when Premier League chiefs meet with the EFL, FA and the Football Supporters' Association on Friday.

With the number of COVID-19 cases rising across Britain on a daily basis, football's slated comeback will be one of the issues that are top of the agenda as the authorities attempt to thrash out an agreeable plan.

A statement released on Wednesday morning read: "COVID-19 has presented a hugely challenging and uncertain time for everyone and our thoughts are with all those directly affected by the pandemic.

"The Government's message is clear: stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives.

"We are all committed to getting back to playing the game we love - but only when it is safe to do so.

"Amid the current uncertainty, supporters will understandably have a number of questions relating to the season and the clubs they follow, and there are no quick answers to how and when we will return to what used to be our football normality.

"The Football Supporters' Association (FSA), Premier League, EFL and The FA want to reiterate that clubs and their supporters have a vital role to play in supporting the Government’s guidance and ensuring community strength and solidarity. While there is no football, our sport can still play its part."
