Premier Inn reveal plans to rebuild Cribbs Causeway hotel after devastating fire

Premier Inn has said it will start rebuilding its Cribbs Causeway hotel next year after a devastating fire reduced the building to rubble.

A fire broke out shortly before 1.30pm on July 17 this year and flames soon took hold of the hotel.

Despite emergency crews rushing to the scene in Catbrain Lane, the fire soon gutted the building, which partly collapsed onto the A4018 .

Police declared a major incident after their resources were already overstretched due to Extinction Rebellion protests taking place in the city centre that week.

All guests were evacuated safely but the building was left in ruins.

Premier Inn has now confirmed it plans to reopen the hotel in 2021.

"Building working is set to commence next year with a planned opening date of 2021," a spokeswoman said.

"Cribbs Causeway is an important site for Bristol and we’re really looking forward to being back up and running."

Avon Fire and Rescue, which launched an investigation into the fire, recently said it had not been possible to establish a cause.

The fire service said extensive damage, as well as demolition works, had forced fire investigators to record the cause as 'unknown'.
