Premier Daniel Andrews in COVID-19 scare

Daniel Andrews has been told to isolate after attending the same event as a COVID-positive person. (AAP)

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is isolating as he awaits the result of a COVID-19 test, having come into contact with a positive case on his first day of leave last week.

Mr Andrews was at an event on Saturday - his first day of about a month's leave - attended by a person infected with COVID-19.

AAP understands the premier was not a close contact of the infected person and has been instructed to get tested and isolate as he waits for a result.

Mr Andrews, who earlier this year suffered a serious back injury in a fall, plans to spend his summer break in the Mornington Peninsula.

His deputy James Merlino is the Acting Premier, with Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan to fill in for Mr Andrews later this month.
