Pregnant women and mothers warned after person pretending to be a midwife entered house in Wales

Pregnant women and mothers have been warned after a person pretending to be a midwife entered a house in Wales.

New and expectant mothers have been reminded to always check identification of those that visit their house after the incident.

It is not known where the incident took place, but a statement released by Maternity Services, Bridgend, Tirion Birth Centre and Merthyr, which covers the Cwm Tag Morgannwg area, said there was an incident in Wales where an individual claiming to be a midwife entered a house.

According to the health board, the person left when challenged.

The statement urged women to be conscious of security at all times, adding that all appointments should be arranged.

The advice for new and expectant mothers said:

  • Ensuring all staff who care for you in hospital, but more importantly at home in the community at have identification.
  • All appointments should be arranged. If someone attends your house unexpectedly you can always call your maternity unit to ensure the appointment is required
  • If you have any questions please discuss this with your named community midwife/team
