A pregnant driver hit speeds of up to 113mph before she crashed her car.
Madalina-Cristina Postolache was two months pregnant and had four passengers in her Audi Q7, including her two young children, when she rear-ended another car.
Mrs Postolache was sentenced in Peterborough Crown Court on Monday following the incident on June 24, 2018 which seriously injured two passengers in the other car.
She claimed another car had swerved in front of her, causing her to brake sharply.
This in turn allegedly caused the bonnet to fly up and restrict Mrs Postolache’s vision, which subsequently led to the crash, reports Cambridgeshire Live .
Mrs Postolache smashed into the back of a Renault Megane, causing serious injuries to both the back seat and front seat passenger.
One of them spent three days in intensive care, suffering broken ribs, a punctured lung and severe bruising to his back from the crash.
The Renault's back seat passenger suffered three broken ribs and bruising to his legs.
Both men also suffered fluid on their lungs and still require hospital care more than a year later.
The driver suffered no serious injuries, but has been suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) since the crash.
Mrs Postolache was unharmed by the collision.
PC Anthea Heap, who investigated the crash, said: “Postolache’s driving was reckless and completely irresponsible.
“She had absolutely no consideration for other road users as she drove dangerously – reaching 113mph before this collision took place.
“The victims in this case were understandably left very shaken by the collision. One of them struggled to sleep and faced anxiety at the thought of getting back into a car. The other man’s fracture may never completely heal.”
Sentencing, Judge Matthew Lowe, told Mrs Polstache she was ‘within a whisker’ of going to prison.
As well as the suspended sentence, she was also ordered to complete a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 200 hours of unpaid work.
As part of the sentence, Mrs Polstache was also handed a three-year driving ban and instructed to take an extended retest.
