Pregnant woman begged for life of unborn baby before she was shot dead 'by husband'

A pregnant woman begged for her life and that of her unborn baby moments before she was allegedly shot dead by her husband, a court heard.

Summer Tatum, 26, was shot twice in the head following a row with Hunter James Tatum, 25, at their home, authorities say.

Prattville police Investigator Wesley Clark said the woman, who was five months pregnant, repeatedly asked her husband not to hurt their baby.

Through home security footage, she could be heard saying: "I’ll stay, I’ll stay. I’ll do anything you want."

The victim, who had cerebral palsy, begged: "Don’t hurt me, please, don’t hurt our baby, please don’t hurt our baby."

According to Mr Clark's testimony, her husband responded: "No. Get away from me."

Authorities determined the circumstances of the incident from three surveillance cameras outside the Tatums' home in Prattville, Alabama, as well as security footage from a neighbour's home.

Mr Clark added: "The video doesn't show much, but it picks up the audio. You can hear the victim screaming and then two gunshots."

Tatum, charged with two counts of murder in the death of his wife and their baby boy, Everett, appeared in court on Thursday.

Prosecutors said Summer had recently found out her husband had been cheating on her with a woman he had met online.

The court heard an argument broke out between the couple and the woman had packed her bags to leave the house when the shooting happened.

One of the cameras pointed in the direction where the woman's body was discovered by first responders, the court heard.

Mr Clark said the curtains of the window were opened at the time of the shooting, as he explained: "You can see what appears to be Mr. Tatum dragging the victim across the floor after two gunshots."

Chief Deputy District Attorney C.J. Robinson said Tatum called 911 after the shooting but did nothing else to help his wife.

Mr Robinson said the case may be continued to a grand jury and the charges against him could be increased to capital murder.

The trial continues.
