Newly married and pregnant with twins, Katherine Hoang was one of two women killed in a tragic car accident in Sydney's west last night.
Ms Hoang, 23, was in a Nissan Tiida with her husband Bronco Hoang, 25, and a 17-year-old female driver when a Mazda 3 travelling in the opposite direction collided with their Nissan on the Northern Road at Orchard Hills.
The unborn twins were killed and so was the 17-year-old driver.
Ms Hoang's husband Bronco suffered a critical head injury and is in an induced coma at Westmead Hospital.
The newlywed couple from Penrith were married in May this year.
The multi-vehicle collision, which occurred around 7:40pm, also left the 29-year-old driver of the Mazda 3 in a critical condition.
He has limb, pelvic and head injuries, and is under police guard.
Two other vehicles suffered minor damage as they took evasive action to avoid the crash when the Nissan was forced backwards.
Police said they were investigating what caused the crash and a report was being prepared for the coroner.
'Everyone's feeling this'
Earlier today, Mark — a local resident who wanted to be identified by his first name only — planted a small tree at the site of last night's crash, accompanied by his two young daughters.
He said he did not know the victims, but the local community was hurting regardless.
"I'm really touched, and I know a lot of people in the area…everyone's feeling this," he said.
"It's just a catastrophe (for the family), and I'm really feeling it, and I'm hoping everyone gets together and does what they can to try and prevent this stuff from happening in the future.
"Just planting it…every time I drive past I'm going to think of these people, and people in this area are going to think of these people."
