Pregnant mum wakes up to a new baby after giving birth in her sleep

A pregnant woman was stunned after going for a nap - and waking up with a baby.

Amy Dunbar told how she gave birth in her sleep and woke up to find her baby on the bed.

The mum shared her story via a video message on social media after responding to TikToker @beyondboss_ who asked fellow users to tell their shocking or surprising birth stories.

Amy replied to the video, saying: "This one was made for me!" before going on to reveal her unbelievable experience.

Amy explained that after 12 hours of labour and still no baby, she was given an epidural to help her sleep and gave her much needed pain relief.

She dozed off and shortly afterwards a nurse came to check up on her and noticed on the monitor that Amy had had a huge contraction while she was sleeping.

Further checks revealed that the nurse could not detect the baby's heartbeat anymore and she asked Amy to reposition herself in hope that the baby would move.

However as the mum sat up she made a shocking discovery.

Explaining what happened, she said: "Not even a minute after that, the nurse was waking me up saying she'd lost the baby's heartbeat on the monitor, but she said 'Don't worry, flip over and I'll find it, baby just probably moved'.

"Doing what I was told, I moved the blanket and was turning over and I was like 'There's something going on'."

"My baby was in the bed. She had delivered herself while I was asleep. That big contraction the nurse saw was her being born."

In a second video, she continued: "So I pulled back the blanket and she was laying in a ball on the bed and it just kind of blew up from there. My dad stepped out into the hall and yelled 'We need help!'"

"And all of a sudden so many doctors and nurses just flooded the room and she wasn't crying, so of course I'm freaking out.

"It was really scary but it turned out OK."

Since being posted, the video has racked up 630,000 views, 115,000 likes and 2,200 comments.

One person said: "Baby's like I'll do it myself."

Another added: "Already a strong independent woman lol."

Whilst a third said: "Hi yes can you please write down whatever it is they gave you so I can ask for that please? Thank you."

"This is what people don't understand. No need to scream push, push. If the baby is healthy and mom ok leave them alone. Baby WILL come out!" added another.
