Pregnant mum, 28, and unborn baby girl died after being rushed to hospital for emergency c-section

A mum and her unborn baby girl died after being rushed to hospital for an emergency c-section, an inquest heard.

Sabine Mukanga, 28, who was 31 weeks pregnant with her fourth child, collapsed at home after complaining of stomach pain.

The hairdresser was taken to North Manchester Hospital where she underwent surgery.

But tragically her daughter was stillborn and "caring and loving" Sabine died shortly afterwards.

Manchester Coroner's Court heard the mum of four suffered a "massive" bleed and went into cardiac arrest after giving birth on February 28.

Sabine, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and lived in Moston, ran a salon with her partner Robert.

Heartbroken friends described her as the "backbone of her family" in a GoFundMe page.

"Heaven has taken one of his angels as we all know, Sabine was a very caring, loving and an ambitious woman," the page read.

"She died unexpectedly and untimely with her seven-month old baby girl.

"She lost her fight on the 28th of February 2021, leaving behind her 3 children , partner, family and friends.

"Sabine was indeed the backbone of her family. A great and loving wife and mother."

Paying tribute, close friend, Osasu Ojo said: "We met at college where we both studied health and social care.

"Sabine was literally the life and soul of the party, such an energetic and happy person, always looked out for everyone, kind and loving person.

"She wasn’t just a friend but also a sister to me."

Her partner Robert added: "She was a nice person.

"When I say nice I mean she would always go out of her way to make other people happy. It is a really big loss."

An inquest into her death was opened today at Manchester Coroner's Court by Senior Coroner Nigel Meadows.

A full hearing to determine exactly how Sabine died is expected to take place later this year.

Coroner Meadows said he would be calling medical professionals from Manchester University Foundation Trust NHS, who run North Manchester Hospital, to give evidence.

"I want to explore whether any different assessment or treatment could have altered the outcome," he told the court.
