Pregnant Leeds woman who fell to death on honeymoon 'always wanted a child', says heartbroken mum

A pregnant Leeds woman who died falling from a cliff on her honeymoon had always wanted a child, says her heartbroken mum.

Yasmin Javed was speaking at a vigil for her daughter Fawziyah Javed on the steps of Civic Hall in Millennium Square this afternoon.

She described the months since her daughter's death on September 2, 2021 as "hell".

"It's just existing, it's not a life," a Yasmin said, surrounded by friends and family who gathered to remember Fawziyah.

"The pain and the loss are immeasurable, I can't describe it.

"No mother, father or family should ever have to go through something like this.

"Our lives are all finished, we're just existing."

Photos of Fawziah at different stages of her life were rested alongside a sonogram of her unborn son against the Civic Hall doors.

Flowers and candles were laid in front of the photos by around one hundred mourners who attended to hear speeches and prayers.

A similar vigil was being held at the same time in Edinburgh, where Fawziyah, 31, was honeymooning just days after getting married.

Her husband, Kashif Anwar, 27, was charged with murder following her death.

Yasmin paid tribute to Fawziyah's "selfelss" character - a sentiment echoed by many of the people gathered in Millennium Square.

"She was big-hearted, selfless, generous, kind, like an angel on Earth," said Yasmin.

"She would do anything for anybody. She would go over and above and never say no to anybody.

"She was a perfect child, niece, cousin, granddaughter, friend.

"She always wanted to have a child and she would have been a great mother.

"It's painful. Two innocent lives have been taken. It's just so painful."
