A heavily pregnant Highland cow has died in ‘serious distress’ after being chased by off-the-lead dogs let loose in her field.
Scots farmer Cameron Farquharson has begged animal owners to act responsibly when walking their pooches in their countryside after losing Gladys and her calf.
The placid cow, who was just days away from giving birth, was reportedly attacked by Labradors on Wednesday evening as she grazed on Eggardon Hill in Dorset.

Mr Farquharson, who is originally from Melrose, shared heartbreaking images of Gladys after she sadly passed away leaving him and his family distressed.
He said: “Our beautiful highland cow called Gladys was killed yesterday evening on Eggardon Hill when some people recklessly allowed their dogs (reportedly Labradors) to chase her to death, killing both her and her full term unborn calf.
“Had I the farmer or the National Trust been informed at the time, Gladys would not have possibly languished all night in serious injury, pain and distress and we might have been able to save her and her unborn calf.
“These native breeds are imperative for grazing Eggardon to encourage nesting birds and rare flowering plants to thrive.
“We are begging people to please, please, please adhere to the notice on the gate and keep your dogs on a lead!
“We cannot afford in financial terms and for mine and my children’s mental well-being to continuously deal with these distressing losses.”
Dorset Police have been contacted for comment.
