Pregnant Gemma Atkinson says 'it doesn't matter' if she has a boy or girl and shares cute childhood photo

Mum-to-be Gemma Atkinson has shared an adorable throwback photo of herself - and says she used to look like both a boy and a girl as a child.

The Hits Radio presenter, from Bury, has been looking back through old photographs as she prepares to become a mum - and says 'it doesn't matter' if she has a boy or a girl.

Gemma, 34, is expecting her first child with Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Marquez.

"Boy or girl it doesn’t matter, as looking back at old pictures of myself I realise I went through a stage of looking like both thanks to my incredible haircut," she wrote to her followers on Instagram.

"I used to stand on a stool, kitchen towel round my neck and let mum chop away. Thanks Mum!"

After seeing Gemma's 'basin cut', fans rushed to share their own stories.

"My mum stuck cellotape across my fringe to get a straight line," said one.

"This made me chuckle. I can remember my 8 year old commenting on one of my school photos ‘were you a boy when you were at school mum?'" wrote another.

"If you didn’t have your hair cut by your ma, were you ever really a kid?" asked another fan.

Fitness fanatic Gemma , who shares her workouts with followers on social media, presented her last breakfast show for the Manchester station before going on maternity leave earlier this month.

The former Emmerdale actress, who played Carly Hope in the ITV soap, will switch to hosting the drive time show when she returns to Hits Radio based at Castlefield.

Gemma and Gorka, who met when Gemma was competing on the BBC dance show in 2017, announced they were to become parents in February by posting an adorable photo of their dogs Ollie and Norman on Instagram, posing with little signs around their necks which read: "Guess what...Mummy's pregnant! We're going to be big brothers!"
