Pregnant dog rescued from streets still waiting for her chance at happiness after puppies rehomed

A dog who was brought to a rescue shelter heavily pregnant is still searching for a family to call her own after all her puppies were successfully rehomed.

Cleo, a seven-year-old crossbreed was found as a stray, on the brink of giving birth and wandering the streets in Romania before being taken in by Flori’s Friends Rescue.

She has since produced a litter who were subsequently adopted and now Cleo is waiting for her turn at starting a new life.

In a post on the shelter’s Facebook page, they describe her as ‘an elegant and loving pooch’ and expressed their wish to see her rehomed to the UK before the winter months set in, as the kennels can become ‘a sad place to be’.

They said: “Cleo is the type of dog who will love you with her entire heart. She enjoys receiving affection and would make someone a really lovely companion animal given the time to settle in.”

She is a medium-sized dog looking for an active home where she can enjoy plenty of long walks and adventures to stimulate her.

Due to her history as a street dog living alongside other animals, she has interacted well with other dogs in the shelter, so could potentially live with other dogs and can be introduced to cats on request, to see if they could be companions.

Cleo could be rehomed to a family with children over the age of six, if they can remain calm around animals and know when to give her space.

The shelter added: “It is important that adopters understand she is an ex-street dog so requires time, patience and training to adjust to life as a companion animal.

“Please get in touch if Cleo could be the girl for you.”

Flori’s Friend Rescue is a Canterbury-based charity that looks to rehome stray and abused dogs across Europe and the UK.

On their website they claim to operate a strictly no-kill policy, instead choosing to work with both disabled dogs and those with behavioural problems, to allow them to enjoy their life just like any other dog.

“This often means taking the ones that other charities will not touch and working with them, no matter how long it takes, to give them a second chance to lead a happy and fulfilled life.”

Since sharing the post on their Facebook page the comments section has been flooded with well-wishers, who have expressed their sadness at her past and interest in potentially adopting Cleo.

A user said: “We have a Romanian street dog we rescued seven months ago. You are right they do need lots of time, patience and love but the rewards are monumental once they trust you.

“If we hadn't already got two wonderful dogs we would jump at the chance. So please if you're sitting on the fence should I, shouldn't I but you have patience, love and room in your home and your heart please adopt a rescue dog, they will reward you forever.

“Good luck beautiful girl. I hope there's a wonderful, loving forever home waiting for you just around the corner.”

Another added: “Absolutely beautiful girl. Hope that someone has room for her in their home, and in their heart.”
