Pregnant and feeling the heat? Mums-to-be share tips for keeping cool during hot weather

Temperatures are soaring and while that's good for most of us, it's not great fun for the pregnant ladies out there.

Pregnant women feel the heat more on an average day, so with the weather hotting up Manchester's mums are searching for ways to keep cool.

We asked mums-to-be to share what they've been doing to cool down - and most believe it's all about keeping those feet cold.

Whether finding a comfy pair of flip flops, or sticking your feet in a bucket of cold water or wet socks, ladies say it's cooling them down and keeping those 'cankles' at bay!

They're also finding that rubbing ice cubes on their wrists, or covering them with cold flannels, helps.

But probably the most popular tip of all is to put the ice - either cubes or a bottle - in front of a fan to fill the room with cool air. Oh and eating some ice cubes while you're at it.

As well as the usual wearing loose clothes and drinking lots of cold drinks, suggestions from other mums include:

  • Keeping a bottle of water in the fridge or buying a mist spray to spray over your head
  • Wrapping flannels soaked in cold water over your feet at night
  • Eating ice pops / lollies and slushes
  • Keeping your hair wet
  • Staying out of the sun
  • Sitting in a paddling pool
  • Freezing a hot water bottle filled with water, wrapping it in a pillow case and taking it to bed

  • Visiting a supermarket and heading to the freezer section

  • Sleeping with a wet towel over you
