Pregame clash leads to Oklahoma and Texas getting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties before kickoff

Before the Oklahoma-Texas game even started Saturday, officials dealt both teams unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for a pregame incident on the field during warmups.

Actually, every Oklahoma and Texas player was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. And that means that if anyone gets a second unsportsmanlike penalty after the game starts — for, say, celebrating a big play with an aggressive Horns Down — they’ll be ejected from the game.

Based on videos circulating around Twitter, it’s difficult to tell if this pregame skirmish was more than some angry words being tossed around or if things got more physical than a few shoves.

But needless to say, things are pretty tense at the Cotton Bowl, and it’s just another reminder of how heated this Red River Showdown is.

Oklahoma enters the game undefeated with quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Jalen Hurts carrying the Sooners’ offense. Texas lost an early game against LSU, but the Longhorns won this regular-season matchup last year before Oklahoma beat them in a rematch in the Big 12 championship game.
