Prediction reveals Nottingham Forest's promotion fate - and it will interest Leeds and West Brom

Nottingham Forest remain in a strong position to challenge for promotion to the Premier League this season.

Monday night’s 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough leaves the Reds in fourth place in the Sky Bet Championship table, with 10 league fixtures remaining.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side are now eight points adrift of the automatic promotion places, but have a six-point cushion in the play-off places, with Bristol City just outside the top six.

Forest resume their league campaign against Millwall at the City Ground on Friday night, where three points could temporarily move the Reds up to third place before Fulham take on the Robins on Saturday.

Respected statistics and analysis website FiveThirtyEight has forecast the final standings in the Championship this season, based on a complex model which takes into account a host of factors.

They have crunched the numbers and predicted that Forest will finish in fifth place at the end of the season, picking up 74 points with a goal difference of plus-14.

Leeds United and West Brom are the two clubs tipped for automatic promotion, while Brentford are predicted to finish fourth and would be Forest’s opponents in the play-offs.

Fulham (third) and Preston (sixth) are the other clubs who would face each other in the play-offs, should the prediction come true.

The prediction also hands Forest a 77% chance of finishing in the play-offs, 16% chance of being promoted.
