Predicting the Steelers defensive starters: Dime defense

Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers used their dime set more than any other defensive alignment. And based on the guys on this year’s roster, we actually think there’s a good chance they run it, even more, this season.

But keep in mind, the Steelers’ dime is more an alignment shift for their base 3-4 defense with a couple of subs. The Steelers run two true defensive linemen, four linebackers — one of which plays the role of a safety — and five true defensive backs.

Here’s our prediction for what the best Steelers dime set will be in 2019. It includes Devin Bush as the team’s only true linebacker on the field and new addition Mark Barron as the hybrid dime safety.

For fans, the biggest surprise in this prediction is the inclusion of defensive tackle Javon Hargrave. After watching him dominate every chance he got last season he really deserves the opportunity to be on the field in more pass-rushing situations.
