Predicting Michigan State’s opening night Men’s Basketball starting lineup

One of the biggest questions facing Michigan State heading into this year’s 2019-20 Men’s Basketball season has inarguably been relating to the starting lineup on day one and throughout the season. With Langford now officially out until January and the power forward position still seemingly vacant unless Joey Hauser is allowed to play this year, there are a few spots that could be filled by newcomers to the starting lineup.

Tom Izzo may have provided his answer to this lineup question in Michigan State’s secret scrimmage against Gonzaga. In that game, he started the following lineup:

  • Cassius Winston
  • Kyle Ahrens
  • Marcus Bingham Jr.
  • Aaron Henry
  • Xavier Tillman

This seems like a pretty good guess on who we would’ve seen. Izzo is more prone to have a glue guy like Ahrens in his lineups over a talented freshman like Rocket Watts. However, Ahrens sprained his ankle during that game and won’t be available to start the season, so it looks like we could see something like this:

  • Cassius Winston
  • Rocket Watts
  • Marcus Bingham Jr.
  • Aaron Henry
  • Xavier Tillman

If Bingham can hang on D even a little bit, this is my preferred lineup if Hauser can’t play on night one.
