Steve Clarke tends to stick with the players he knows he can trust and who have done the business for him before. That will mostly be the case against Cyprus at Hampden on Saturday, but there’s a big call to make between the sticks. With Craig Gordon out of action due to a double leg break, there will be a new face protecting the nets.
Hearts teammate Zander Clark has filled in for Gordon domestically and has done well for the Jambos in their quest to finish third again. Angus Gunn has been called up for the first time, after two years of attempting to persuade the keeper to switch allegiance from England, which he’s finally done. Liam Kelly has been included in a number of squads, but is seen as the outsider to fill the role this weekend and against Spain on Tuesday night.
In front of whoever gets the gloves, there could be a debut for Blackburn’s Dominic Hyam after his inclusion. Kieran Tierney has found gametime hard to come by at table-topping Arsenal, but he's such a key figure for Scotland that it’s unthinkable that Clarke will drop him.
Up front, Lyndon Dykes is not long back after being hospitalised with pneumonia while we’ve seen little of Jacob Brown. Che Adams’ Southampton form means it's likely he’ll get the nod to start up front.
