Predicted Newcastle United line-up for Canaries clash as Howe forced into two defensive changes

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe will be forced into at least two defensive changes for tonight’s crucial clash with Norwich City.

Both Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie picked up their fifth bookings of the season in the Magpies' 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday and will therefore serve a one-match ban.

Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez will both be pushing to take the place of captain Lascelles, although it is the former who looks most likely to come in given the Argentine’s omission from the last five matchday squads.

At wing-back, Howe is perhaps more spoilt for choice in terms of options to replace Ritchie. Jamal Lewis, Javier Manquillo and Jacob Murphy will all be vying for recalls.

Elsewhere, it is unlikely that Howe will make too many changes, despite the fairly disappointing display at the Emirates on Saturday.

Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden will both be eager to make their first starts under the new manager, however given the improved performances of Jonjo Shelvey in the last two matches, he is expected to keep his place.

Joe Willock could be the man to make way if there are any midfield changes, although Howe may want to persist with that midfield pairing as he looks to establish partnerships all over the pitch.

In attack, Miguel Almiron will be hopeful of a return to the starting XI, however a front three of Joelinton, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin has shown some positive signs under Howe, particularly during the 3-3 draw with Brentford.

Predicted line-up (3-4-3): Dubravka; Krafth, Schar, Clark; Fraser, Shelvey, Willock, Manquillo; Joelinton, Wilson, Saint-Maximin
