Predicted Chelsea team vs Manchester United - Surprise wing-back selection and Jorginho decision

Chelsea will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run under Thomas Tuchel and move back into the Premier League top four this afternoon when they take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues currently sit fifth in the top-flight table but can move into the Champions League positions if they overcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

That will be no easy feat. United haven't lost an away game in the Premier League this season and are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions.

"Hopefully, we can win, this is what we go for," Tuchel said ahead of the game. "We know that it is a big challenge because of their unbeaten away record so far.

"We know what we are up against, a team that can hurt you at any second with individual quality and can hurt you at any second with speed.

"They are a strong team away, they can defend very compact and they are very, very good in transition with their wingers and with Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes' deliveries, Mason Greenwood, Edi Cavani, Martial and whoever plays.

"So it will be a big challenge to defend all this, to defend counter-attacks. The implications are huge. If we get a win out of this game, it is huge for us and if they get a win, it is huge for them to increase the difference between us. Let's see."

Tuchel has stressed throughout his time at Stamford Bridge that the most important game Chelsea face is the next one. So he will not be selecting his team against United with half an eye on the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Thursday evening.

So who makes the cut?

Edouard Mendy remains Chelsea's number one goalkeeper and will start this afternoon. The Senegal international has kept four clean sheets in six matches since Tuchel's appointment.

Cesar Azpilicueta should be named on the right of the Blues' back three. Antonio Rudiger, meanwhile, has been an ever-present in the Premier League under the German coach and should occupy the left of the defensive trio.

In the middle of the two is likely to be Andreas Christensen. The Denmark international has starred in the role in the absence of Thiago Silva, who is not yet ready to return from the thigh injury he sustained against Tottenham Hotspur on February 4.

"We have no new injury concerns, but Thiago can't play on Sunday," Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference.

"He did an individual session today [Friday] on the pitch and it was a big step for him. So I hope he will join the group next week."

At right wing-back is likely to be Reece James who can offer greater defensive protection than Callum Hudson-Odoi against Marcus Rashford.

On the left, Tuchel may spring a surprise and start Ben Chilwell for the first time since the victory over Sheffield United.

Given Tuchel has highlighted the threat of Manchester United on the counter and in transitional situations, N'Golo Kante may start in midfield to provide mobility and defensive security alongside Mateo Kovacic. Jorginho should drop to the bench.

Mason Mount appears to have nailed down a starting role under Tuchel and is expected to maintain his spot as the number ten, although he does have a battle on his hands with Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz fit and available. Christian Pulisic is also in the reckoning.

After his acrobatics in midweek, Olivier Giroud is the logical choice to lead the Blues attack this afternoon and will be flanked by Timo Werner, who has started every Premier League game since the 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Predicted Chelsea side vs Manchester United (3-4-1-2): Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; James, Kante, Kovacic, Chilwell; Mount; Giroud, Werner.
