Predicted Chelsea team vs West Ham – Kai Havertz dropped as N'Golo Kante decision is taken

With the threat of a breakaway Super League very much over, Chelsea can get back to trying to qualify for next season's Champions League.

This afternoon, the Blues make the short trip across the English capital to take on West Ham United at the London Stadium. It is a must-win game for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Chelsea currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League table, which would ensure they are back at Europe's top table next season (despite their apparent eagerness to walk away from the competition at the start of the week).

But West Ham are just behind. David Moyes' side have enjoyed a fine campaign and, with only six matches left to play, only sit behind the Blues in the top-flight table on goal difference.

With fixtures against Arsenal, Man City, Leicester City and Aston Villa ahead, Chelsea can't afford to drop points at the London Stadium.

But with Real Madrid to come in the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday evening, Tuchel will have to think hard over who makes his starting XI. Here's what we expect him to do.

We already know who starts in goal: Edouard Mendy. The Senegal international has sat out the previous two games but Tuchel confirmed in his pre-match press conference yesterday the summer signing from Rennes will return between the posts.

"He [Kepa Arrizabalaga] had two clean sheets in two difficult matches for us. So it is a very good feeling to know we can rely on two goalkeepers and they can produce clean sheets.

"They earn our trust at the moment and the situation, in general, has not changed. But Edouard will be in goal tomorrow."

On the right of the back three will be Cesar Azpilicueta, who started Tuesday's draw on the substitutes' bench, while on the left will almost certainly be Antonio Rudiger.

Thiago Silva is available for the contest but with Real Madrid to come, the Brazilian may be named on the bench. Andreas Christensen, who returned from injury in midweek, is likely to get the nod in the middle of the defence.

At right wing-back, Tuchel may opt for the attacking thrust of Callum Hudson-Odoi, especially given Reece James has started the last three matches. On the opposite flank should be Ben Chilwell.

N'Golo Kante didn't feature against Brighton so is guaranteed to start at the London Stadium. Alongside him will be Jorginho with Kovacic not available and Billy Gilmour not trusted.

Tuchel may opt to freshen his attack against the Irons. Timo Werner is likely to start on the left of the attacking trio, Mason Mount should be moved back into his role in the right having been used in a deeper midfield position against Brighton.

Who leads the attack is always the biggest call Tuchel has to make. He may opt for Olivier Giroud, who has scored seven goals in 14 Premier League matches against the Irons.

Predicted Chelsea side vs West Ham United: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; Hudson-Odoi, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell; Mount, Giroud, Werner
