Predict Eddie Howe’s first crucial games in charge of Newcastle United

Newcastle are 19th in the table and five points from safety, with nine matches before the January transfer window, which is when - if all goes to plan - the cavalry will be arriving.

Until then, new boss Eddie Howe has to ensure that Newcastle United are within touching distance of safety, which means grinding out results against the big boys and getting wins against fellow strugglers.

There are certainly points there to be had, starting with the match on November 20 against Brentford, who have lost their last four league games, including to bottom club Norwich City and Burnley. Plus, it'll be Howe's first match at St James' Park, so hopefully the players won't fluff their lines. No pressure.

After that is an away match to Arsenal on November 27. Good luck everybody. Then another home match, this time against Norwich City on November 30 - another club which will be hoping for a bounce after changing managers.

On December 4 Newcastle will be at home again, this time against Burnley. There are nine points on the table for those three games if Newcastle can get in their stride during the international break.

Then things get trickier, with a match away to Leicester City on December 12. Then things get even trickier, and if Newcastle haven't given themselves hope by this point it might be all over by Christmas.

First up is Liverpool at Anfield on December 16. Then Manchester City at St James' park on December 19. The day after Boxing Day, Manchester United will be visiting St James' Park.

Then, the final match before the January sales begin (hopefully), Newcastle will be visiting the ghost of Christmas past at Goodison Park, in the form of Rafa Benitez's Everton.

It's not easy, but nothing looks easy for the Newcastle squad at the moment. There are definitely points to be had there. You can use our prediction widget above to plot out how it will go.
