Predators edge Lightning in overtime, 3-2

TAMPA, Fla. _ The Lightning came close and earned a point but still can't solve the puzzle the Predators bring to Amalie Arena.

Penalties cost the team again as Nashville scored two power-play goals and won, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday. Ryan Ellis scored on a wrist shot with 3:15 left in overtime to give the Predators the win in their first meeting this season.

Tampa Bay has lost four in a row to Nashville and hasn't won in regulation since Dec. 19, 2013.

The Predators scored power-play goals with about five minutes left in the first and the third periods. Calle Jarnkrok got things started with a goal with 5:36 left in the first period. His one-timer deflected off Erik Cernak in front to put Nashville on top.

The Lightning responded with two goals in the second period. Steven Stamkos scored six seconds into a power play and 32 seconds into the period. Ondrej Palat picked up the rebound of Nikita Kucherov's shot and sent it to Stamkos at the hashmarks. Stamkos put it past goalie Juuse Saros.

Tyler Johnson gave the Lightning the lead midway through the frame. Brayden Point tied up Matt Irwin in front of the net, giving Johnson the opening to skate around and pick up the loose puck.

Roman Josi scored another power-play goal with 5:13 left in regulation, another one-timer but this one got through traffic cleanly to tie the score 2-2.
