Predator Scots rapist who abused teen girls for half a decade dies in jail

A sick Scots rapist who put young girls through half a decade of horrific abuse has died in jail.

Joesph Glass was described by police as a 'predator' who raped, assaulted and threatened three girls in Clackmannanshire between 1999 and 2004.

His crimes came to light in September, 2018 when he was also convicted of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour.

He was sentenced to eight years behind bars with victims thanked for coming forward.

It has now emerged Glass has died at HMP Glenochil aged 71.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed the death in a statement.

It read: "Joseph Glass, 71, a prisoner from HMP Glenochil has died on 15 May 2021. He was convicted at Edinburgh High Court in 2018.

"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."

Following his conviction in 2018, Detective Constable Ruth Thomson of Forth Valley’s Public Protection Unit said: “Glass is a predator who attacked and threatened three teenaged girls, without any concern for their welfare.

“Glass has now been held to account for his actions and I would like to thank his victims for their continued support and cooperation throughout this investigation. I hope that this sentencing will allow them to move forward with their lives.

“Police Scotland treats all reports of sexual crime with the utmost seriousness, regardless of when the offences occurred.

"We will investigate the matter thoroughly and professionally, fully supported by partner agencies to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”
