Pre-planned Paisley murder bid leaves man with serious head injuries

A pre-planned ambush in a Paisley street has left a man with serious head injuries.

Murder squad cops are investigating after three thugs jumped the 30-year-old victim as he walked in the town’s Henderson Street at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

The trio continued the violent onslaught in nearby Brown Street where police yesterday highlighted spots of blood on the pavement with numbered evidence markers.

Detectives believe the attackers hid in wait in a close before laying into the out-numbered victim with weapons.

The wounded man was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where medics treated him for serious injuries.

Cops sealed off a large section of the west end following the attempted murder and specialist forensic officers were called in to scour the scene for clues as to who was behind the onslaught.

It’s understood to have been a targeted attack and there is no wider risk to members of the public.

A trawl of CCTV in the area is underway and officers are also carrying out door to door enquiries.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross from Paisley CID said: “From enquiries carried out so far, we believe this may have been a pre-planned and targeted attack on the victim, which has left him with serious injuries.

“The incident happened in a busy residential area, with lots of flats overlooking the street, and it is likely that people will have witnessed what happened.

“I am appealing for anyone who was nearby and saw the assault take place, or noticed anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 2962 of Wednesday, 28 April. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”.
