PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the city is unlikely to receive pre-monsoon rainfall this week.
Met officials said that the day temperature will hover around 37-38 degrees celsius, with partly cloudy conditions towards evening.
The city and some parts of the districts had received pre-monsoon showers in the last few days.
“There is no strong system present over the state now. The westerly wind is bringing moisture over the state. Because of this, we are witnessing partly cloudy conditions in the evening hours. But it is not getting converted into rainfall,” said Anupam Kashyapi, head of the forecast division, IMD, Pune.
The day temperature had plummeted to 34-35 degrees celsius on a few days mainly because of pre-monsoon showers last week.
On Sunday, the day temperature of the Shivajinagar observatory was 34.6 degrees celsius, which was below normal by 1.7 degrees celsius. The Lohegaon observatory recorded 35.4 degrees celsius, which was below normal by about 0.6 degrees celsius.
“However, the day temperatures will rise this week. It is likely to remain in the range of 37-38 degrees celsius throughout the week. It is mainly due to clear sky conditions till the afternoon hours and dry weather conditions,” Kashyapi added.
On the progress of the Southwest rains, Kashyapi said, it will not have an immediate impact on the state weather. “It is likely to onset over Kerala by May 27,” he added.
