Pre-inquest review opens into death of young woman who fell from tower block

A pre-inquest review has opened into the death of a young woman who fell to her death from a Stockport tower block.

Shop worker Shelby Drinkwater, 21, died after falling from a window in Norris Towers on Wilkinson Road, Heaton Morris, in the early hours of July 20. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

At the review at Stockport Coroners Court, Area Coroner Chris Morris agreed that as Ms Drinkwater's death was not natural, a full inquest is necessary. He formally adjourned the inquest to gather evidence from Greater Manchester Police, Ms Drinkwater's GP and the mental health trust.

Giving evidence, PCO David Wood said he identified Miss Drinkwater's body at Stepping Hill hospital using a photograph of her. Since her death, friends have been paying tribute to Ms Drinkwater on Facebook.

One wrote: "Absolutely broken. Can't even explain the emotion and pain I'm feeling right now.

"No words at all right now I feel numb. I'll forever remember you girl, I love you."

Another wrote: "My heart is breaking, You really was and will forever be loved and missed. I'll never forget the memories we hold together 'little sissy'."

In a statement at the time of Ms Drinkwater's death, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called at 12.45am today (20 July 2022) to a report of a woman who had fallen from a window at an address on Wilkinson Road in Stockport. Emergency services attended and a woman in her 20s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances and a report is being prepared for HM Coroner."
