Pre-inquest review held into death of man who went missing from Trafford hospital

A pre-inquest review has been held into the death of a man who went missing from a Trafford hospital.

James Booth went missing from the Altrincham Priory Hospital, Rappax Road, Hale Barns, Trafford at around 1.30pm on Wednesday, October 10.

In statement four days later, GMP said: "Officers searching for missing James Booth from Trafford have sadly found a body.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file shall be passed to the coroner."

An image of James, wearing grey Asics trainers and a dark grey tracksuit with burgundy sleeves and a burgundy stripe running down each leg, was issued by police in a bid to find him.

Mr Chris Morris, Coroner for South Manchester, opened the review on Tuesday (February 16)  and set a date for a further review on March 17, 2021.

The court heard Mr Booth was detained at The Priory due to his mental health.

Mr Morris requested evidence from Miss Catherine Flannery, a solicitor from Brown Jacobson, representing The Priory, by March 30, 2021 and asked for statements from all staff involved with Mr Booth in relation to prior attempts to abscond from the ward.

Mr Morris also requested evidence from Detective Inspector Nightingale of Greater Manchester Police and police Coroners' officer Mr Dave wood.

The court, attended by Mr Booth's brother Mark Booth, heard a Samsung phone belonging to Mr Booth was found on his person and will be analysed.

Further evidence was requested of Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust, Mr Simon Mather, legal representative for Mr Booth's family, and from Manchester University's Health Foundation Trust.

Mr Morris told the court that following the second pre-inquest review a date will be set for the inquest, which is to be held in front of a jury.
