Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's flight was diverted to Surat Thani as he headed for Nakhon Si Thammarat on a flood inspection trip to southern provinces on Friday morning.
Bad weather at his planned destination led to the plane landing instead at an air force base in Phunphin district of Surat Thani around 8.30am.
Around 9am, Gen Prayut travelled on to Nakhon Si Thammarat, around 150 kilometres away.
He is due to meet provincial governors in the region to discuss problems and measures for the flood alleviation and management.
The prime minister will also meet people at the Coordinating Center of Pak Phanang Basin Area Development Project under Royal Initiative.
Then he will visit the Uthokkawipatprasit watergate, which is part of the royal project.
Prior to returning to Bangkok, Gen Prayut will pay a visit to Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawiharn in Muang district.
