Thailand and Bahrain have welcomed the close cooperation between the two countries as their leaders met at Government House yesterday.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha paid a courtesy call on HRH Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, the premier of Bahrain, at the Thai Khu Fah Building.
Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said Gen Prayut was honoured to meet the Bahrain premier and thanked him for attending the royal cremation ceremony of the late King last week.
The prince said he had to attend the ceremony as the late King contributed a lot to Thailand and the international community, Lt Gen Werachon said.
Thailand and Bahrain have agreed to expand economic, trade and investment cooperation further, he said. Foreign ministers from the countries will also hold a High Joint Commission meeting early next year, he added.
According to Lt Gen Werachon, Gen Prayut said Thai private operators are interested in setting up Thai Mart as a distribution centre for Thai goods in Bahrain's capital city Manama. He said various parties are now working on getting this project off the ground.
The Thai prime minister agreed to support food security in Bahrain as Thailand is a major supplier of farm produce, including halal food, in the world, Lt Gen Werachon said.
