Praying for success

Examinees and their families offer ema tablets to pray for success during entrance exam season at Yushima Tenmangu shrine, which is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning, in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, on Thursday. People who visited the shrine wrote, "Absolute passing" or "May my wishes come true," on an ema and tied it to a special place at the shrine.
