‘Praying for her’: Rylan Clark reveals his mother Linda has been rushed to hospital

Rylan Clark has said he is "praying for" his 71-year-old mother Linda who was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery while they were on holiday.

The 34-year-old presenter announced he would be pulling out of his scheduled Radio 2 show, with Scott Mills replacing him, as he supported his mother who suffered a serious fall.

“So unfortunately I took my mum away on her first holiday in a good few years and sadly she’s had quite a bad fall, resulting in her having to have surgery out here,” he wrote on Instagram on Friday.

“She’s not in the best health with her other conditions and this has made it more complicated. My priority at the moment is my mum.

“Cheers Scott for covering me at Radio 2, and thanks to the people out here that have sent their well-wishes.

“Praying for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. Will update you on mummy Linda as and when I can.”

He later told his followers: “Surgery has gone well. Will keep yas updated.”

Fans, and some well known names, took to the comments to share messages of support.

Presenter Kate Garraway wrote: “Sorry to hear, Rylan”, while Catherine Tyldesley said: “Sending love, light and healing, darlings.”

Vanessa Feltz commented: “Oh my goodness I am sorry to hear it! Praying for a speedy recovery.”

Ruth Langsford wrote on behalf of herself and husband Eamonn Holmes: “Oh no… darling Linda. Sending you both all our love.”

Clark previously revealed that his mother, who almost died from sepsis in 2018, has battled with Crohn’s Disease – a condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system and  affects around one in 1,200 people in the UK – for decades.

She has been in and out of hospital and undergone several operations to remove damaged parts of her bowel and is on daily medication.

“My mum lost her job because of the disease – it totally dictates her life,” he told Daily Mail about her Crohn’s. “When she was diagnosed it really hit her hard because it wasn’t picked up early enough.

“I grew up with the disease as well because she was ill – it is life-threatening. It’s scary.

Clark has previously spoken about his mother’s health struggles (Getty Images)

“It could be difficult when I was young because sometimes she couldn’t come on school trips and other times she was so embarrassed about her symptoms that I couldn’t have my mates to stay over.”

Linda became a hit with her son’s fans after she first appeared alongside him on Celebrity Gogglebox in 2021.

He previously wrote in a Sunday Times Magazine article: “My mum, Linda, is my biggest f****** headache, but I don’t know what I’d do without her.

“She’s got the best of both worlds with me – I’m a son and a daughter. I can talk to her about make-up and blow dry her hair, and I can tell her to f*** off. She’s a liability.

“She’s the ultimate cross between the nan from Catherine Tate and Pam from Gavin & Stacey.”
