PRAYAGRAJ: Preparations were in full swing in the Sangam City to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) which is on July 21. People of muslim community were seen making hectic purchases in the local markets, especially of the old city area, and the Ulemas and Imams have requested people to follow all the guidelines laid down under Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have requested everyone in our locality to follow all the norms and not many people should come to masjid to offer namaz but rather they should pray in their homes. At the same time, Qurbani (sacrifice) should be done in homes only”, said maulana Ekramul Haque Azhari of the Harwara masjid.
He also said that he has asked people to offer prayers in remembrance of Covid-19 victims and pray to Allah for the betterment of the country and countrymen.
Several of the mosques of the city requested people to follow the Covid-19 guidelines as this is for their own safety. An appeal is being made to the people of the locality to arrange a Jamaat in a room or offer Bakrid prayers in their houses. At the same time, management of various mosques were seen ensuring that not many people arrive to offer prayers on Wednesday.
At the same time, preparations for conducting thermal scanning and sanitising the hands of the devotees has also been ensured by the people managing the mosques. On Tuesday too, there was a lot of crowd in the markets for the purchase of Bakrid. Men and women were seen shopping till night in Chowk and Roshanbagh, Kareli, Shahganj, Chowk, Sabzimandi, Hatia, Bahadurganj, Noorulla Road, Atala intersection etc.
The Bakramandi remained crowded till late night on Monday and all day along on Tuesday. There was huge rush of people arriving in the market to buy goat of their choice. Traders from various villagers of Manauri, Puramufti, Lalgopalganj, Soraon, Mauaima etc. reached the city with goats on trucks.
Likewise, the garment shops too witnessed huge rush as women folks and youths were seen purchasing new outfits for themselves and the family members till late night. “There are far less numbers of corona patients in the city and things are normal because of which we are able to celebrate Bakrid. However, we will also offer prayers for those who died in the last couple of months because of corona”, said Shahab Uddin, a local.
