Prawit unaware of Oak's whereabouts

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said on Thursday he is unaware of Panthongtae "Oak" Shinawatra's whereabouts, after rumours spread that the son of fugitive premier Thaksin Shinawatra had fled the country.

"I don't know. There's no record [of him leaving the country] at immigration checkpoints," he said.

The rumours surfaced after Mr Panthongtae -- who has been formally charged with money laundering in connection to the Krungthai Bank (KTB) loan scandal -- posted a message on Instagram saying that he was "looking for a way out" on Wednesday.

He entered a plea of not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and collusion in money-laundering when he was arraigned in the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases in November.

He was granted bail on the condition that he does not travel abroad without the court's permission.

It was said that Mr Panthongtae requested permission to go abroad in March next year, which was granted.
