Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has ordered five 100-million-baht Thai-made amphibious armoured personnel carriers (AAPC) for use by the marine.
Gen Prawit, who is also a deputy prime minister, presided over the opening of the Defense and Security 2017 fair at Impact Muang Thong Thani on Monday. The event was attended by Thai military chiefs and international military personnel.
Launched at the fair was the AAPC manufactured by the Defence Technology Institute, a public organisation under the Defence Ministry, in collaboration with Cho Thavee Plc. The carriers can be used in amphibious landing drills and rescue missions since it is equipped with a medical floating kit.
The fair runs until Thursday.
Set up in 1994, Cho Thavee is a joint venture between Khon Kaen Cho Thavee 1993 Co Ltd of the Taweesaengsakulthai family and Germany-based Doll Fahrzeugbau AG, a manufacturer of truck bodies and trailers.
The company makes commercial automotive engineering systems, as well as rail technology and defence industry products such as trucks, trailers, buses, catering trucks, trains, armoured vehicles, troop carriers and battleships.
Cho Thavee shares (CHO) fell 0.55% to 1.80 baht in trade worth 3.6 million baht on Friday.
