Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon does not expect an uncontrollable rally when Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit reports to Pathumwan police station on Saturday to hear a charge of sedition.
He said on Friday that he did not think there would be unrest because the meeting was a normal procedure resulting from an old case from four years ago. There would be no problem if Mr Thanathorn could prove his innocence.
"It is an old case that police are handling... The case dates from four years ago and two sets of interrogators have been replaced. That cost time. But if there is not a case, there will not be any problem," said Gen Prawit who is also the defence minister.
He was confident authorities would ensure peace and order at Pathumwan police station on Saturday.
The Royal Thai Police Office summonsed Mr Thanathorn to report to the station at 10am on Saturday as the National Council for Peace and Order accused him of sedition for allegedly helping anti-coup demonstrators flee arrest in June 2015.
Gen Prawit is the deputy chief of the NCPO.
